How to write the introduction
(The first paragraph of the post)
The introduction is a paragraph usually starting with an introductory topic sentence followed by the preview of the topic that the post will be written on.
1. Introductory topic sentence and preview
Start writing the introduction with an introductory topic sentence then go on with the preview. The preview of your post (that follows the topic sentence) should frequently be but a sentence or two long. Let's learn the following examples. Introductory topic sentence will be italicized.
Aids or HIV
Did you read the news lately? Everyday more and more cases of deaths because of Aids have been reported in different newspapers and magazines. In this post, I am going to discuss the several reasons for this disease to spread in three location: the capital city, the coastal areas and the rural areas.
Noise pollution
My youngest uncle Tom always blames my sister and me for talking loudly to each other. This seems to be surprising but he assures me that the noise hurts him a lot. In this writing I would like to point out several measures to stop noise pollution. These measures all depend on the efficiency of the technology of the past, the present and the future.
A hobby, a game or a sport
How can we get involved with this hobby? Let me try to talk about some of the advantages and disadvantages of the game.
2. More on the preview portion:
Another technique you can use to preview your post is to list briefly the main point of the essay:
- There are three points to consider about the new plan, who will administer the plan, what should be done and who will pay for it.
- Let's consider in the following paragraphs what is meant by "birds of the same feather flock together" and how the proverb works in different situations.
- Let me tell you why it is a myth that boating is expensive, why it is a myth that boating is difficult, and why it is a myth that boating is dangerous.
